Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9080 android smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9080 android smartphone has a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution that is made of Gorilla Glass with a WVGA, repackaged with a new stylised chassis, re-purposed with a  dual-core processor and re-target at the fashion conscious consumer. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz user interface with its Dual Core ARM Corte-A9 U8500 chipset processor along with 768MB of RAM.

The chassis design is thin and light, and some careful thought has gone into the software bundle. A well constructed albeit largely plastic – smartphone with the compact, rounded edged finish fitting comfortably in the hand and offering little in term of unwanted and unnerving flex when put under considerable amounts of pressure. Samsung has put the headset slot on the bottom edge and there must be an internal configuration reason for this and it is better than a side-mounted connector. It is a good position as far as pocket ergonomics is concerned; it just seemed odd to put the phone into the pocket, in different position – upside down.

Other aspects of the phone includes a 5-megaixel primary camera with LED flash, falls back within the confines of the standard offering with 720p HD video recording capabilities featured as another now expected specification. A 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, video calls are made possible with the handset built-in speaker, an integrated MP3 player and FM radio  capabilities further enhance the entertainment options in an increasingly expected, less than groundbreaking fashion. Samsung’s software tweaks include a rather nice facility to put up to four shortcuts for camera action in a menu down the left edge of the screen when you’re framing shots. This makes it easy to do thing like toggle the flash, timer or geolocation, or use various shooting modes.

Despite this smaller form, however the 9.7 mm thick handset, which is larger than Apple’s 3.5-inch iPhone device, which is heavier than its higher spec’s S2, with its 120g heft a mere 4 grams more than the now year-old handset.

Once again offering more than its mid-range price tag would usually suggest with phone owner given an option of 8GB or 16GB configuration.  Along with the microSD card slot for the storage expansion up to 32GB of memory space offering a feature usually reserved for the top-of-the-line cream of the smartphone crop. While the speedy innards will see the Samsung Galaxy S Advance measure up as a mid-market mobile phone power house, many will be looking to the smartphone’s entertainment features before heading to a retailer and on this front the S Advance offers a mixed bag of tricks. Build in a quality, nice and very typically in the Samsng mould standard, with curved corners and a single physical button beneath the screen tha’s planked by touch-sensitive Menu and Back Buttons when you need them.

On the other hand, there is DLNA for media sharing, Polaris Office for document editing and creation, Kies Air for file exchange over Wi-Fi via desktop web browser, plus a fair range of widgets to augment the Android standards.
