Samsung has introduced a new external DVD writer, SE-218BB that is touted to be the world’s thinnest external optical disc drive. Measuring just 14mm in height, Samsung says the new ODD is 18 percent thinner and 8 percent lighter than a conventional DVD writer.
However, it’s the functionality that makes it special. For tablets running Android 3.1 OS and above and featuring a full USB port, users can hook the drive to enjoy DVD content on-the-go since it requires a single USB port to power on. Additionally, it also supports the new breed of notebooks known as Ultrabooks.
As for the product, SE-218BB comes with a Buffer Under Run technology, supports Windows as well as Mac operating systems and DVD writing speeds up to 8X.
The SE-218BB will sell for $60.
